What is the role of art in the world?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 01, 2008:
Ah, art. Art has infinite and precious possibilities and roles, and for it's limitlessness I love it passionately. It's many roles include: to stimulate thought, to set forth a call to action (political art can be so fascinating and powerful, can't it?), to reflect on one's life, to get emotional responses from viewers, to allow the artist to pour their heart and soul onto a canvass (or stage, sculpture, film, etc.), to challenge preconceived thoughts and opinions, to relax, to soothe, to comfort, to attack, to argue, to disturb, to push the envelope of creativity and the boundary of what "art" can be, to challenge what constitutes art (Please feel free to see my blog about that topic here, if you are curious), to shock and appall, to relate, and (my favorite reason) to change the world.
I love art and it's boundlessness. The infinite possibilities of art makes me proud to call myself an artist.

I enjoyed reading this, yes art is limitless and precious.
“to push the envelope of creativity”
loving the artistry behind this line!
A culture is as great as its dreamers and its dreams are dreamed by artists and I love how your dream for us to change the world.
Thanks, all, for reading and commenting on this blog! :) And yes, ~KES, I do dream of change, and try to do my best to better this world myself, in little ways. Art is often a fabulous way of doing so, and I admire those artists who have been successful bettering the world with their art. Hopefully I'll be added to their list one of these days.
Have a relaxing evening, all of you!
Take care,
Jenna
