A beautiful poem I stumbled across: "Greeting"

As we were cleaning and organizing our garage, we discovered all sorts of little treasures from our past hidden away in boxes. We smiled as we read my homework assignments from the 2nd and 3rd grades, and a story I wrote about dragons coming to my school, and we became incredibly impressed when Dad found and read to us poems he wrote a long time ago. They are wonderful (and very similar to e e cummings-- my favorite poet!), and I had to share my favorite with all of you.
This poem, entitled "Greeting," demonstrates the sacredness of seemingly mundane activities, and how much beauty exists in every day, and every moment, of our lives. Very Gaian, isn't it? :)
Enjoy,
Jenna
Oh Glorious, Bright and Yellow Morning!
I greet you with my body, freshly fallen
from my warm and rumpled bed. I praise you
with my hands as I reach up through steam
to adjust the shower nozzle.
Oh Great Bringer of Day, and Daytime Duties!
I marvel at you, as I slip on my watch, rush
through breakfast. You are never late! You arrive
on schedule! I kneel before you, tying my shoes,
Picking up my car keys where I dropped them last night.
Oh Continuous and Never Ending Distributor of 24 Hour Periods of
Existence! I sing to you, cursing the traffic. I honor you
by the movement of my form through the Holy Minutes of this day.
I will Work, I will Breathe, I will Eat, I will Enjoy Myself
as often as possible. I will Make Plans
for Tomorrow.
Oh Marvelous Day! Here you are again!
You are here, and
I am here. So let’s get on with it.

Jenna,
A very special surprise for me is contained in this ‘Greeting’, it’s a marvelous work of prose that even Cummings would be proud of. I resonate strongly to it with Gratitude.
I was reading a bit of of the Daily Guide from Science of Mind Magazine dated Jan 4th, 2004 just before I started to post on the Gratitude Chain.
Dr. Linda McNamar a minister of the first Church of Religious Science at Leisure World in Laguna Hills, CA shared this.
Being Content in Life’s Storm
Affirmation:
Today all distractions and thoughts of what the future might bring fall away, as I center my attention on the present moment. My life is filled with infinite possibilities and my way is made clear before me.
Absolutely. Thanks for sharing that quote with me. And yeah, it’s amazing to know how much beauty and life is embedded within every seemingly mundane moment. The poem also reminds me of the main message behind the play Our Town.
Thanks again, and have a beautiful day,
Jenna
Jenna, I love your dad’s poem…and Lars’ contribution goes with it soperfectly. Thank you both…hmmm, all three actually :)
:) And thank you to for posting! I’m so glad you enjoyed it, and I agree, Lars’ contribution is pretty lovely. :)
